Jana designs with love

Jana, who just turned 25, is a young Croatian who has been living in Milan for over 6 years now. She just graduated from Design school and is now working on several projects. She is passionate about interior and industrial design, but fashion above all. What fascinates her is to create things people like, but that cannot be found in shops, not at a decent price at least. Right now she is working on her own website, on which she will present and sell the clothes she designs together with her boyfriend, Tristan.

When did you start designing clothes?
I’ve always been sketching and I always dreamt of making things me and my friends like, but which we couldn’t find in stores – at least not at a decent price. I studied industrial and interior design, but fashion has always been a big passion of mine. Then, when I met my boyfriend Tristan, we just clicked in any sense of the word. He is great at sewing and tailors things e-x-a-c-t-l-y the way I imagine them in my head.

Which kind of background does Tristan come from?
He studied Business and Management (I guess to make his family happy), but making clothes has always been his passion too. He is very talented and learned how to sew at a very young age.

But hey – you didn’t tell us the brand name!
Well, that’s another thing that we still have to decide. It’s kind of a sensitive question because Tristan was already making clothes before we started doing things together. But as soon as we agree on it we will let you know!

Tell us something about your creative process then!
Usually I start researching materials and do the sketches, whereas Tristan tailors everything according to what I have in mind. He is also the one telling me which style is more or less effective or feasible with a certain material. But sometimes it is him, who discovers a certain fabric or detail which he thinks I could like or that could inspire me. Then we sit together in our apartment and the process starts…

How do you manage to work and be together at the same time?
Sometimes it’s tough because we both have other jobs and always need to find time to work on this project and we really want to do it right. We are aware that, in order to get the results we want, we need to invest a lot of time, for creating a whole and well thought collection, a look-book and so on. Plus, Tristan works in Switzerland, so that makes it even more complicated, but I’m sure we’ll make it somehow and you’ll be hearing about us pretty soon!
